The biggest class at the JEGS ET Series is Super Pro with the class featuring the fastest cars on the property. Doorcars, dragsters and roadsters are all together competing against each other.  This year the championship came down to the final race of the year and deep into eliminations before it was decided. It came down to multi-time champion Scott Hessler and Caleb Ellison.

The whole Super Pro season came down to the final race of the season with 5 racers having a shot at the title (Scott Hessler 1st, Charlie Brown 2nd, Caleb Ellison 3rd, Zach Simpkins 4th and Andrew Waddle 5th) and all of them very capable of taking home the championship. After the second round, it was down to Ellison and Hessler, but Hessler was on a buyback meaning he was only earning half points with each round win.

Hessler and Ellison continued to defeat every opponent they faced each round.  When the round 5 ladder came out, they were both still in the race, but they didn’t have to race each other.  Ellison’s pair went down first, and he defeated Craig McKenzie taking the points lead by 6 points.  Hessler needed a round win to keep his hopes alive and he did with a win over Dennis Meade.  The round 6 ladder came out and it was Ellison vs Hessler!  The championship would come down to the quarterfinals of the final race of the year.  They were both .001, Hessler was .017 above and Ellison was .010 below giving Hessler the round win.  Scott and Caleb were tied at the top of the points and Caleb had the tiebreaker.  But the ladder came out for round 7 and Hessler had the bye which put him into the final round and that gave him the points he needed to clinch the championship and his runner-up finish gave him an 11-point win for his championship.

“I don’t know what to say, this year has had its ups and downs and we battled it out until the very end. The racers at National Trail Raceway are some of the best in the country and it is an honor to race against them each week,” said a smiling Scott Hessler. “I just want to thank everyone for helping and supporting me this season and being able to bounce back after last year feels so good.”

Hessler plans on defending his championship next year and to run some of the bigger money races and to try to win the NHRA Division 3 Super Pro title.

Congrats to Scott Hessler the 2023 JEGS ET Series Super Pro Champion!
